AASHTO TRAC*

AASHTO’s 7-12th grade educational outreach program is designed for use in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) classes and consists of seven self-contained education modules featuring professionally developed curricula that meet national standards of learning.

Each module contains the equipment, software, and supplies needed to perform hands-on activities related to: Bridge Design, Design and Construction, Environmental Engineering, Highway Safety, Magnetic Levitation, Motion, and Traffic Technology.  In addition to the teacher-training workshops, each module contains a teacher reference guide, a volunteer guidebook, and a QuickTime™ movie showing how each activity works. The modules have up to five activities, allowing teachers to tailor the lessons to their needs.

In partnership with AASHTO, Caltrans, and PECG, PREP coordinates TRAC training workshops for teachers in California and works to secure the funding for teacher participants.  As teachers utilize the modules in their classes, the PREP Foundation also arranges for state engineer mentors to visit, speak, and aide in lesson instruction at their request.
