California Bridge Building Competition
Using the model of AASHTO's National Bridge and Structure Competition and the components provided in AASHTO's TRAC curriculum Module, students are challenged to design and build balsa wood bridges that are judged on their strength-to-weight ratios. Interested students are asked to submit detailed design portfolios for preliminary evaluation and finalists are invited to present and test their bridges in front of a panel of distinguished judges at the competition. In addition to recognition, cash prizes are awarded to the top three teams competing in each grade division.
Students are also encouraged to submit their portfolios to AASHTO's National Competition, where finalists are invited, all expenses paid, to compete against other teams from across the country at AASHTO's Spring Meeting for additional recognition and cash prizes. This year's meeting will be held in Park City, Utah in late May.
